I only wish to generate cinematic visuals for render and then video editing to create films and effects for film. I don't presume to know a lot about UE4, I just get a lot of criticism from devs when I ask this question, but I'm not going to be using it for dev work in any capacity. Thank you in advance if you're reading this. My PC housekeeping ritual is actually starting to get in the way of productivity (in spite of a truly monstrous, spacious system) and I've always been hesitant of Windows for that reason alone. Recently it only seems to be getting worse. PC allows me to customize hardware and environment to my needs, however I've experienced lots of bugs in software that would otherwise run fine on Mac. Mac has a theoretically better track record of video and image production, but I don't feel it to be reasonably priced or reputable for 3D animation compared to a PC equivalent, nor do I have experience with it's render quality from UE4 in Mac, plus I'm worried I'll need to upgrade it relatively soon to keep up with UE's development. If this was strictly dev, I would go for a PC, however the film industry around the world does rely a great deal on Mac and so do a vast majority of my clients, forcing me to consider the option. If I use Mac I plan to invest in an eGPU, so we can assume I'll be working on a system with equal performance requirements in each case. My question relates specifically to output performance, quality, reliability and stability when used with the program, and if there are any notable visual differences in the final product when created on a Mac or PC. I am fluent in both OS environments, neither MacOS nor Windows bother me. I will ONLY be creating animation and motion picture production vfx with UE4 and Blender. I repeat: I am NOT using UE4 for game dev, I'm strictly looking for advice from users who have had experience with animation creation and virtual production. I am not a game dev, nor will I be using it for any game development. I'm looking to upgrade my workstation, but I'm having difficulty deciding which workspace environment to go to since I probably won't want to upgrade again in the next 5-10 years (I hope) and I'd love to hear advice from users with experience since I've only used UE4 on PC, however I have some concerns:
